Cyprus Has A Digital Nomad Visa You Should Probably Skip
There are other Mediterranean Islands To Consider
The world of digital nomad visas (DNVs) is always in motion. While there have been various ways to visit countries and work while on vacation, (legally) living in a country while working remotely wasn’t an option until the pandemic. Initial digital nomad visas began popping up in 2020 as a fringe way to draw in remote workers while stimulating the economy. Even if the host nations didn’t go after taxes, it brought in short-term residents who pumped money into grocery stores, shopping outlets, and real estate.
It didn’t take long for digital nomad visas to become in vogue, especially around Europe. If you were a remote worker and had your eyes set on the Mediterranean you were forced to wait, as countries like Italy, Spain, and Türkiye took their time putting into place DNVs.
Of late, the vast majority of Mediterranean countries have launched some variation of a DNV, including the island nations of Malta and Cyprus. While Malta receives the lion’s share of attention for its streamlined, entirely online application process, Cyprus has fallen into the shadows.
