From 9-to-5 to Living Abroad: How I Made the Leap…and You Can Too
It all starts with that first step.
Comfort.
It’s something I’ve always craved.
When I was just a boy, maybe seven or eight, I didn’t want to go away for a week for summer camp. It meant not having the comfort of my mother.
I hated solo presentations in school because it meant I could no longer hide in the comfort of the back row. I won’t even get into the world of violin recitals. 30 years later those things still terrify me.
There’s comfort in switching on my favorite television shows and watching episodes I’ve seen dozens of times. There’s comfort in singing along to albums I grew up with. Heck, there’s comfort food because it warms and soothes.
Comfort is important to me, as I’m sure it’s important to you.
And it might be what’s holding you back.
The Comfort of 9-to-5
Okay, who’s kidding who, the old 9-to-5 is more like 8-to-6, but you know what I mean. Nobody really wants to admit they like the drudgery of clocking in, whether it is at a physical office or via Zoom. But there’s a level of comfort there. You know what to expect and what the day will likely throw your way.
