Hey there, Tracey! My first tip would be to try to find out what local apartments are renting for. Chances are there's a Facebook group for the city you're looking for (such as "Apartments in Barcelona" or "Apartments For Rent in Medellin"). Those are good places to start because you can find out a general price range.

The country you're looking to move to probably has its equivalent to Apartments.com, so a quick Google search should help...but my experience is the listings on these websites aren't updated frequently. So these websites are good for seeing prices, and for finding apartment real estate agents (you'll probably have to go through an apartment real estate agent, although it depends on where you're going).

As for the anti-US, there are a few things. First, I've found even though people are anti-US, it's more anti-US government than anti-US people. Now, with that said, don't flaunt or boast about wealth. People will figure you have more money because you're from the US, but as long as you're not boasting about it or rubbing it in, you'll be better off (really, it's not all that different from someone super rich here in the US flaunting their money). Try to learn the language. I'll admit I'm a very, very, very, poor language learner. It's something I've always struggled with, but I make sure to at least know how to say hi and have small conversations, so they at least know I'm trying. That's really all you can do. If your neighbors see you're trying, they'll be appreciative.

If you have any other questions let me know. Maybe I can write a longer piece about it. I'm currently putting something together about healthcare in European countries with digital nomad visas and if the quality is comparable to the US.
