Honestly, at this moment in time I would recommend not moving to Argentina. Since the new president devalued the currency everything has shot up in price. Last November it was one of the cheapest countries in South America, now it's one of the most expensive. I was recently in Madrid and groceries were less expensive there than in Buenos Aires (a small sample as I was only buying things for sandwiches and beverages, but still).
Not a silly question at all. I think people saw the devaluation and assumed it meant Argentina was suddenly cheaper. But really it's the reverse. The blue dollar rate has been all but wiped out. And the new government has removed all subsidies, so utilities have skyrocketed too. My electricity almost tripled last month.
Personally, if I could, I'd go to Colombia. Medellin is beautiful and significantly less expensive (but I can't take my dog there so it's a non starter).
