How exciting! The 180-day rule is only for the digital nomad visa. If you spring for a retirement visa you won't have that restriction (there are a few different options when it comes to that. I believe there's one option that just looks at your retirement income, such as Social Security, and then there's another you can get if you purchase a property). You'r S.S. would just be deposited electronically into your bank account, so it wouldn't really change too much.

I loved Colombia. I only visited a few major cities, but there's really something for everyone. It just depends what kind of scenery you're interested in.

As for your cat, it's not difficult as long as you follow the requirements. Pretty much just have your cat up to date on shots, then 10 days out you'll have a USDA vet inspect your cat, they'll send out for an electronic certification, and then you're good to go.....the one thing to consider though is Colombia is considered a "high risk" rabies country. Not an issue for your rabies-vaccinated cat. However, if you were to travel back to the U.S. with the cat it might require some extra blood work/possible quarantine.

If you don't have your cat yet it might be worth adopting one when you arrive!
