I'd say it's still worth checking out just to visit. But I'd probably consider retiring somewhere else...it's just doesn't have the financial benefits any longer (it's amazing how much of that has changed in the past 6 months or so). On the Buenos Aires expat group I'm in, people were just talking about how their insurance costs jumped 50% from last month (still cheap compared to the US...but prices are jumping very quickly). Not sure what your criteria is for retirement, but Paraguay has some major benefits (lol, no beach and lacking the major events, but financially there's a load of benefits, and locals love visitors because they aren't as common).
