The thing that surprised me about Asuncion was immediately after leaving the airport, there was so much newness to it. Shopping malls and centers, a Hard Rock Cafe. Palm trees with Christmas lights. There were sections you could swear you were in Florida. Closer you get to downtown the more rundown it is. There's some interesting food options, solid grocery stores, and locals are super nice. They had an egg salad empanada with hot sauce, which I was all about. I was there for six days...there's not a ton to see and do. But I think if you're looking for a nice spot to just hang around with really friendly people and eat food, maybe enjoy nightlife that isn't overwhelming, it's worth a visit.

Just don't make my mistake and go in January, which is the middle of their summer. Being in the middle of the continent with zero water access...it's brutal.
