They've had a ton of major stumbling blocks. Day 1 they had a chance to be the USA of South America, but instead the government placed all industries in the hands of a few rich families...which prevented any kind of innovation or industrial development. But yeah, Peron was another major inflation starter, printing out money they didn't have for projects they couldn't afford....basically a practice that's continued for 80 years.
