This is you believing the Spanish government's gaslighting. The 4-5% of homes bought by non-EU individuals has little to no impact on overall cost of the average house, regardless of whether they are overpaying or not. This tax will not do a thing to help home prices and, the reality is, the only outcome will be to harm the small villages with aging-out populations attempting to attract outside buyers.

Airbnb bans will likely have more of an impact, but once again the majority of those are owned by locals and was/is an internal issue. Not one caused by outsiders.

The Spanish government is doing nothing but scapegoating and deflecting. It's not unique to Spain. Many countries blame immigrants/outsiders for problems they don't want to take responsibility for.
