Yeahhhhh, relying only on SS or a pension, especially one that would barely cut it in the US, isn't the best option. Having some kind of fallback, side hustle, or some other way to bring in some cash is a must. I think Portugal is a prime example. 5 years ago moving to Lisbon was super duper cheap. While still affordable, it's not like it was. Airbnb "Experiences" I think are good ways for people to make money...and even keep it in USD if they need to for tax purposes. Offering local tours, cooking classes, etc. is a nice little side job that, at least for me, is also fun.
